Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
The Community Emergency Response Team consists of a committed group of Peninsula residents who have been trained by the Long Beach Fire Department to provide support to the Peninsula community in the event of an emergency such as an earthquake. City agencies have indicated that professional help (Fire, Police, medical, etc.) may not be available to the Peninsula for a period of several hours to three days and the Peninsula must be self-sufficient during that time. The organization includes a chairman and team leaders who oversee short wave communication, search and rescue, fire suppression and medical response, as well as block captains for each street. CERT holds monthly meetings or drills and participation by all Peninsula residents is welcome and encouraged.
